Conlan Stops Ibarra at the Theater, Madison Square Garden on St. Patrick's Day

By Francisco Villasenor

March 17, 2017- In the main event, in a full green house, debuting Irish 2016 Olympian, Super bantamweight Michael Conlan stopped Tim Ibarra at :53 seconds of the third frame of a scheduled six rounds.

With a basic, solid jab and hooking lefts and right, Conlan controlled the pace from the onset.
Conlan switched to the southpaw stance momentarily in the second, quickly moving back to the conventional stance, despite missing with overhead rights, Conlan worked the body, trying to find the correct distance throughout the second.

Finally Conlan trapped Ibarra on a neutral corner, exchanging shots, not letting of the gas, managed to put enough leather, which prompted referee Bengy Steves to step in for a stoppage at of the third frame.
Replays showed Ibarra blocked most of the shots, but looked to be on his way to losing anyway.

The UFC's double weight title holder Connor McGregor was part of Conlan's entourage.

Saucedo StopsGarcia in two

In the co-featured bout, Super Lightweight Alex ''Cholo'' Saucedo stopped Johnny Garcia in two.

With a jab, Saucedo dropped Garcia in the second round.

Saucedo, who had previously staggered his opponent with several shots against the ropes went back to methodically break down Garcia and with two head shots to the head, inflict enough damage to warrant a stoppage in the second.

Mercifully, referee Steve Smoger called it a night with :20 seconds remaining in the round of a scheduled eight.
Garcia dropped to 19-4-4, 11 KOs.

In a fight which seemed to be destined for an early stoppage, aided by a bad referee, Brazilian Olympic medalist and Super Featherweight Olympian Robson Conceicao, now 3-0, 2KOs) stopped Aaron Hollis in two.

In other results, Lightweight Teofimo Lopez (3, 0 , 2 KOs) Daniel Bastien (4-5-1KO)
Bastien came out aggresively, with Lopez slowing down the pace, with his sharp counter-punching, going on to win via stoppage with a series of body shots at the onset of the onset of the second round.
